VSMT
What's VSMT?
Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy is a safe form of gentle and natural therapy that focuses on the nervous and musculoskeletal systems in your pets. The nervous system controls everything in your pet’s body and is intimately related to the spine and vertebral column. If the joints of the vertebral column do not move as they should, this will affect the nerves that enter and leave the spinal cord. These nerves transfer information between the brain, spinal cord, organs, muscles, and other parts of the body.
Benefits of VSMT
VSMT is not a replacement for traditional medical and surgical techniques but can be an important adjunct in the care of the animal as a whole; below are some of the benefits:
- Acute neck and back pain
- Limited performance, recovering from surgery
- Reluctance to move, climb stairs, or jump into raised areas
- Signs of pain when performing certain movements or being lifted
- Undefined lameness, ambling or slow gait, worn down nails on one or more paws
- Hypersensitivity to touch
- Lick granuloma on legs or paws
- Recurrent ear or anal gland infections
- Altered sitting positions (so-called “puppy sitting”)
- The animal lies on only one side
- Recurrent digestive problems
- Dripping urine or inability to hold faeces
